Desk Appearance Tickets

Long Island Desk Appearance Tickets Attorney

What is a Desk Appearence Ticket (DAT)?

A DAT is an alternative method for processing a person who has been arrested. Normally a person must wait in jail for a minimum of 24 hours before appearing in court for their arraignment. When a DAT is issued, instead of the individual being held in jail, they receive a document with orders to appear in court on a specific date and time, which is referred to as a “return date.” Failure to appear on this date could result in a judge issuing an arrest warrant.

When the individual goes to court on their return date, the judge will explain the charges being brought against them, allow them to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty, and determine whether it is necessary to set bail.

Although it may not seem like it, receiving a Desk Appearance Ticket (DAT) is a serious matter. If you have been issued a DAT, it means you have been arrested but were not processed through traditional arrest procedures. At The Law Offices of Scott Gross, P.C., our criminal defense attorneys can help you understand your DAT and what you can expect after law enforcement has issued this document to you.

The Arraignment

The arraignment is not a criminal trial, so no evidence will be presented and no determination of guilt or innocence will be made – unless the individual makes a plea deal with the prosecution.

Our Long Island desk appearance ticket attorneys have over 13 years of legal experience and can guide you through the arraignment process. We can help you understand what charges you are facing and the consequences of a conviction. If necessary at this point, we will negotiate with prosecution for a plea bargain before your case goes to trial.

Receiving a DAT is just like being arrested and begins the process for criminal proceedings. For quality legal counsel, contact The Law Offices of Scott Gross, P.C. We will listen to you to understand your unique circumstances and let you know what your legal options are. We have experience successfully helping individuals who have received DATs, and we will work hard to resolve charges at your arraignment.
